Collection: Francoise Cosmao

Françoise Cosmao is a self-taught artist who, since the 90s, has established herself with a unique and evocative style. Originally from Brittany, her works are deeply rooted in her Bigouden roots, but they are also enriched by her many travels, from India to Zanzibar. These experiences translate into a palpable passion for movement and color, essential elements that imbue her paintings with vibrant energy and emotional depth.

Her "abstract figurative" style is characterized by a remarkable ability to capture scenes of life and portraits of people, while distilling the very essence of her subjects. Using mainly oil painting with a knife, Françoise favors an intuitive approach that consists of suggesting with a stroke and going to the essential. Her works are marked by textured reliefs that add a tactile dimension to the canvas, inviting the viewer to explore the nuances and subtleties of her compositions.

Françoise Cosmao plays with the materiality of painting, letting the canvas breathe and express itself. Her art reflects a mastery of gesture and a creative freedom that make each work unique, while offering an open window onto timeless and universal moments of life. Her paintings are as many testimonies of a world in motion, crossed by light and shadows, where each color tells a story and each stroke of the knife is an invitation to contemplation.
