"Apocalypse" (diptych)
150 x 400 cm, Marker on PVC, 2008
Installation view, Museum 900, 2012

“Apocalypse” is a monumental and immersive work that unfolds a vast panorama of images and symbols, inviting the viewer to navigate a seemingly chaotic and fragmented world. Using black marker on PVC as a medium, the artist juxtaposes contemporary scenes with historical, mythological and popular elements, creating an eclectic and disorienting mix that evokes both order and disorder, the ancient and the modern.

Each section of the diptych is full of intricate details and symbolic figures: war scenes, flags of various nations, fantastical creatures and emblematic characters coexist in a dense and dynamic visual space. A crown overlooks the composition, perhaps in reference to human power or vanity. Amidst this teeming assemblage, narrative elements emerge, suggesting multiple and contradictory stories, reflecting the complexity of our world today.

This work, through its scale and complexity, creates an immersive space that forces the viewer to move around, approach and distance themselves to understand each detail and how it fits into the whole. The installation view at Musée 900 further accentuates the visual impact of the work, with the neutral white walls amplifying the contrast with the intense black of the marker and the striking forms of the composition.

“Apocalypse” is not only a work about the end of times, but a reflection on the human condition, the fragility of civilization and the cyclical nature of history. It invites a deep contemplation on contemporary issues while drawing on a rich repertoire of visual and cultural references.
