"Apocalypse" (diptych)
Duratrans on lightbox, 150 x 100 cm each, 2007
Installation view, PAC, 2007

In this captivating installation, “Apocalypse” reinvents itself as a backlit diptych, plunging the viewer into a whirlwind of visual details and narratives. Using duratrans, a translucent support illuminated by light boxes, the artist brings to life a complex and abundant scene where the profane meets the sacred, and where modern icons rub shoulders with classical and mythological references. The vibrant light intensifies the colors and contrasts, creating a sense of movement and urgency that captivates the eye and invites prolonged contemplation.

The dense composition, replete with historical figures, fantastical animals, religious symbols and popular culture brands, illustrates an apocalyptic narrative where chaos seems to dominate. Each visual element interacts with the others, telling multiple stories that overlap and intersect, creating a complex network of possible meanings and interpretations. A crown sits at the top of the composition, perhaps a symbol of divine power or judgment, above a landscape scattered with fragments of decaying civilization and contemporary motifs.

The bright lighting of the lightbox amplifies the immersive effect of the work, transforming the gallery into a theatrical stage where art and architecture merge. The viewer, confronted with this luminous scene, is invited to decode every detail and lose himself in the visual intrigue elaborated by the artist.

“Apocalypse” is a meditation on collapse and rebirth, a reflection on the cyclical nature of destruction and creation, and an interrogation of how we construct and deconstruct our cultural and spiritual narratives through the lens of contemporary art.
