Playing with the iconography of the famous puzzle, Philippe Rude's Rudik's Cube transforms a simple playful object into a vibrant and expressive work of art.
The vibrant colors, applied with a glossy enamel texture, reinforce the sculpture's graphic appearance, while suggesting an almost pictorial dimension. But here, the cube is not perfect: its lines twist, its angles distort, as if the game itself had escaped the imposed rules.
With this work, Philippe Rude questions our quest for resolution, our obsession with order in a fundamentally chaotic world. A nod to childhood, to reflection, but also to the freedom to deconstruct in order to better reinvent.
