In Untitled rockform V , Ioustini Drakoulakou explores the texture of the mineral world like a living palimpsest. The brilliant shards, the crystalline veins, the clear fractures evoke a material in constant mutation, where geological memory surfaces.
The image presents itself as both a map and an enigma: an inner territory, a mental landscape, a fragment of rock that has become an intimate cosmology. The eye is lost in the ramifications of a transfigured underground world, where each crystalline detail seems to contain a forgotten story.
In the series Losing turquoise , this work highlights the tension between the scientific rigor of mineralogical analysis and the emergence of sensitive, almost shamanic narratives.
Through Drakoulakou's lens, the mineral world becomes a mirror of our contemporary contradictions—between rational certainties and re-enchanted beliefs, between matter and memory.
