In The Passage , Vanessa Yiile captures a moment suspended between light and silence. The deliberately inverted image immediately disorients us. The sky becomes depth, the architecture seems to float, and the gaze is invited to abandon all certainty in order to enter into another perception of reality.
This narrow corridor, bathed in contrasts between the deep blue of twilight and the golden warmth of artificial lights, becomes a symbolic space. A place of transition. A threshold. The passage is not merely architectural—it is internal. It evokes those moments when one goes through a phase of transformation, when one moves forward without yet fully seeing the exit.
“A quiet moment in a noise, muted” — silence exists even in the urban density. In this vertical and immersive composition, the viewer experiences an unexpected calm. The inversion of perspective suggests that sometimes, to see more clearly, one must accept looking at the world upside down.
“Seems like we see more upside down.”
True to her approach, Yiile explores the spirituality of everyday life and the fleeting beauty of the moment. Photography becomes a sanctuary: a space for recentering, raising awareness, and introspection. The intense blue opens onto infinity, while the warm light evokes the human presence, discreet yet essential.
The Passage embodies the courage to move forward, even on the narrowest paths. A contemplative, cosmopolitan, and profoundly sensory work.
