In Turquoise ∅ , Ioustini Drakoulakou delivers a spectral, almost ethereal image, captured under a polarizing microscope from a thin section of turquoise from Vathi Kilkis – the only deposit of this mineral in Greece.
The work, which belongs to the Losing Turquoise series, evokes a form of disappearance, an ultimate trace. The void seems to gain ground, as if matter itself were fading into the light. At the heart of this pale circle, a core resists, fragile, almost erased, but still there.
A scientific gaze turned into poetic contemplation, between dissolution and persistence.
