In Turquoise ∅ , Ioustini Drakoulakou delivers a spectral, almost ethereal image, captured with a polarizing microscope from a thin slice of turquoise from Vathi Kilkis – the only deposit of this mineral in Greece.
The work, which belongs to the Losing Turquoise series, evokes a form of disappearance, a final trace. Emptiness seems to gain ground, as if matter itself were fading in the light. At the heart of this pale circle, a core resists, fragile, almost erased, but still there.
A scientific gaze transformed into poetic contemplation, between dissolution and persistence.
