Two figures stand side by side, wobbly, vibrant, stripped of all artifice. They seem born from a flash of consciousness or a blurred memory. In Philippe Trefois' work, the line bursts forth, the gesture imposes itself, and the color bursts forth like a vital pulse. It is a painting of feeling, of the moment, of what the body does not express but which the soul translates into raw forms.
Here, the gaze is questioning, sometimes absent, often suspended. The charcoal lines and the flat oil paints tell of an intimacy that is revealed only in fragments. The bodies are there, almost clumsy, but with a striking presence, like archetypes of an eternally vulnerable humanity.
Between Women is an interior fresco, a silent scene where tenderness, derision and self-memory mingle.
