Two figures stand side by side, unsteady, vibrant, devoid of artifice. They seem born from a flash of awareness or a hazy memory. In Philippe Trefois's work, the line bursts forth, the gesture asserts itself, the color erupts like a vital pulse. It is a painting of feeling, of the moment, of what the body does not express but which the soul translates into raw forms.
Here, the gaze is questioning, sometimes absent, often suspended. The charcoal lines and flat washes of oil paint tell of an intimacy that is revealed only in fragments. The bodies are there, almost awkward, yet strikingly present, like archetypes of an eternally vulnerable humanity.
Entre femmes is an inner fresco, a silent scene where tenderness, derision and self-reflection intertwine.
A distorting but sincere mirror, in which everyone can, perhaps, recognize a piece of their own chaos.
