In Abîme , Maxence Landon confronts us with a form of visceral, almost primal withdrawal. The human figure, folded in on itself, naked, hands covering the skull, seems to contain within it an intense inner tension – somewhere between pain, meditation, and protection. Every muscle, every curve of the body reflects a deep emotional charge, as if matter itself were holding the breath of a being facing the unknown.
The bronze, patinated with dark and warm shades, accentuates this sensation of silent introspection, of emotional density frozen in the metal. True to his practice, the artist lets the unconscious take over: it is not a message he imposes, but a question he shares.
"Who are we?" the sculpture seems to whisper, on the edge of the figurative and the spiritual. Abîme is thus part of a quest for inner truth, driven by an aesthetic that is at once raw, organic, and sensitive.
