With Campagne d'antan , Félix Lamalle invites us to delve into a vibrant past, that of rural Guadeloupe, lulled by the song of the sugar cane fields, shared labor, and evening dances. The artist brings back to life everyday gestures, joyful faces, thatched wooden huts, and the bountiful nature that borders the sea horizon.
The sun, broad and golden, rises or falls asleep in a sky of a thousand shades, bathing the scene in an almost sacred light. The work is a pictorial song, a poem of gratitude to a nourishing earth and a time when humanity seemed to beat to the rhythm of a common drum.
