With Homage to Rothko , Fausto Borge reinterprets the tradition of chromatic abstraction through a highly personal approach to materials. Against a vibrant, almost celestial blue background, the artist arranges sculpted and engraved aluminum fragments in rhythmic lines reminiscent of both archaic writing and a silent musical score.
These irregular, metallic forms, sometimes light, sometimes denser, seem to float on the painted surface. They do not obey strict symmetry but rather an organic logic, as if emerging from the blue itself. The aluminum, in its roughness and brilliance, introduces a tension between the mineral and the immaterial, between the weight of matter and the luminous depth of the monochrome.
The allusion to Rothko is not an imitation of his color fields, but a tribute to his fundamental quest: that of a pictorial space where color becomes experience, vibration, presence. Borge extends this exploration by incorporating his own preoccupations: traces, memory, the persistence of fragmentary signs. Here, blue becomes a territory, a sky, or an inner sea where metallic forms play the role of vestiges, imprints, or constellations.
