The shopping cart, lost in the greenery, becomes a vestige of a consumerist civilization – poetic, derisory, abandoned.
In Green Market , Rémy Xavier combines nature and culture with bittersweet irony. An overturned shopping cart, draped in fabric, rests in the heart of a vibrant, almost wild meadow of green. Beside it, a graffitied wall recalls the nearby urbanity, infiltrated even into the margins of the landscape.
The artist plays with contrasts: the manufactured object, symbolizing the act of purchasing, is absorbed by nature, as if digested by it. Grass grows around it, the sky pierces through the foliage, but it is the human, absent, who is questioned.
Through this unusual scene, Rémy Xavier questions modern rituals, and transforms a banal gesture – shopping – into a visual meditation on abandonment, the imprint and involuntary beauty of our traces.
