With this 2019 piece, Fausto Borge further explores his work with metallic materials, examining the tensions between roughness and brilliance. The artist embeds an engraved aluminum plate within a dark, mineral background, its texture reminiscent of stone, ash, or a volcanic surface. At the center, an incandescent zone emerges: an organic network of metallic lines, like a living fabric frozen in motion.
The striking contrast between the matte surface and the silvery sheen of the aluminum creates an almost tectonic visual vibration. The composition seems to capture a moment of erosion, melting, or crystallization—a material in transformation, suspended between solidity and fluidity.
