In Homage to Rothko 1 , Fausto Borge revisits the legacy of the master of abstraction, moving away from the chromatic realm to explore a mineral, almost cosmic territory. The work is structured around a central square, a serene metallic brown whose surface appears polished by time. This silent, delicately vibrant zone acts as a calming chamber within a more tumultuous composition.
Around this tranquil center, the artist deploys a densely perforated, engraved aluminum border, marked with a constellation of craters and corrosive textures. This granular ring, evoking both lunar matter and oxidation processes, creates a striking contrast with the inner field. The composition suggests both a threshold and a reliquary: a protective space sculpted by light and shadow.
