In Deforestation , Mounya Kecha sensitively depicts a silent cry in the face of the irreversible destruction of nature. The tree, drawn in black and white, stands like a vestige of a once-living forest, while a pristine sun illuminates a deserted landscape. The contrast between the vividness of the colors—coral pink and deep turquoise—and the dark, evanescent lines of the tree creates a tension between beauty and loss.
At the foot of this tree, disordered lines evoke the nets of human exploitation, trapping the last traces of life. The title alone reflects a profound reflection on environmental injustice and on inaction in the face of the damage perpetrated by greed.
With a mastery of mixed techniques, the artist combines lightness and gravity to convey a powerful message: free will gives us the possibility of choosing between good and evil, but what remains when these values seem to fade away?
