Four faces, one breath — between sky, sea and memory.
In Marie , Maguy Bourzeix deploys a fascinating vertical composition, a mystical dive into the depths of the feminine soul. Four faces gradually emerge, from the seabed to the surface of the world, like successive incarnations of the same being, of the same story.
At the top, a statue of Mary, protector of sailors, watches from the deck of a ship. Beneath her, a crown of wings and seaweed frames a first face with open eyes, an observer of the visible. Then come the closed gazes: introspection, memory, dream. Finally, at the very bottom, the last figure stares at us—eyes wide open, mouth closed, as if to seal a secret or deliver a silent message.
Around them, jellyfish hover like floating thoughts, suspended fragments of universes. Maguy Bourzeix weaves here a profound and symbolic work, where the sea becomes the womb and woman, the memory of the world.
