Trip to Jordan
In 1996 I took a trip to Jordan with my aunt. We travelled across it from North to South, from the capital, Aman, to the port of Aqaba on the Red Sea.
Passionate about the different civilizations that have inhabited the area, I was able to discover the Nabataean remains, the people who created the site of Petra, those of the Romans in Aman and other places.
For my watercolors, I wanted to paint different characters I had met: soldiers, camel drivers, flute players, etc... I made them from my own photos.
A Jordanian soldier sits on ruins in Petra. His uniform blends in with the pink sandstone. It's too hot to remain on guard duty. From here, he can keep watch just as well.
