I love all styles of music, from classical to jazz to blues, and I have been playing classical guitar for many years.
When I arrived in India in 2002, I was fascinated by Indian classical music.
I have attended wonderful concerts in Delhi and had the privilege of listening to great masters such as Ustad Bismillah Khan, Pandit Jasraj, Shahid Pervez, Shujaat Khan, Kishori Amonkar and many others.
I then decided to learn the sitar, and I devoted about seven years to its study and practice with an excellent teacher.
I started sketching musicians in concert, then I made paintings, from photos or my imagination.
Initially, I drew them in pencil, ink and wash, before moving on to a series of paintings, some of them in Cubist form.
Why Cubism?
Perhaps to introduce a part of abstraction, and thus better translate the meditative depth that Indian music creates in the listener.
This large acrylic painting (100 x 80 cm) was first shown at my exhibition at Bikaner House, Delhi in May 2018.
