This is a Sufi shrine, the tomb of a Sufi saint – Sheikh Hamiduddin Nagauri – venerated by many pilgrims who travel long distances, going from shrine to shrine across India. Beside the saint's tomb are a mosque, a courtyard, and facilities for pilgrims.
I visited this place in broad daylight, in a stifling, dry heat: it was nearly 40°C. In the courtyard, I saw an old bearded man, dressed in white kurta pajamas, probably a mullah, walking calmly. In the opposite direction, a veiled young woman was advancing discreetly. At the back, behind a curtain, another woman was coming out of a room where pilgrims gather before entering the sanctuary.
The courtyard was small, bathed in light and oppressively hot, except for a few large trees that provided some shade. A few small graves were scattered across the marble of the courtyard. Nothing was said. All was calm, serene, and peaceful.
A very meditative scene.
