This 2021 work marks a continuation of Fausto Borge's exploration of memory, erosion, and the layers of time, but with the expansion of his palette to include painting. On this wooden surface, acrylic and oil blend to produce a dense, almost mineral relief, where shades of rust, burnt ochres, and greenish touches interact in a profound chromatic vibration.
The eye is drawn to a worn material, worked to the point of abrasion. The surface appears scarred, hollowed out in places, revealing micro-fractures, areas of wear, and deposits reminiscent of both metal corrosion and the gradual weathering of rock faces. Within this tangle of textures, traces emerge, uncertain silhouettes, like the vestiges of a diffuse memory that has permeated the surface.
Borge explores here the ambivalence between destruction and revelation: each layer deposited seems to erase another while simultaneously leaving its trace. The wood becomes an archaeological site where time, gestures, and reminiscences overlap.
Through its interplay of materials and colors, the work opens a space for silent contemplation, where abstraction carries within it a profoundly organic and poetic charge.
