With Forest , Fausto Borge continues his exploration of living materials, the memory of surfaces, and the slow metamorphosis of time. Here, the paint becomes almost like bark—an organic layer torn from an imaginary undergrowth, where the colors seem to have grown and spread rather than been deposited.
The surface, built up through layers of oil and acrylic, reveals a rich relief, nourished by hollows, thick slabs, and controlled crumbling. The irregular, almost mineral or vegetal forms evoke fragments of moss, damp earth, lichen, or leaves caught in a state of transformation. Nothing is directly represented, yet everything points to an intimate, inner forest, where memories mingle with natural textures.
The dominant hues—patinated greens, burnt ochres, brown traces, and brighter bursts of light—converse like so many sedimented layers. They suggest a living soil, a space where matter breathes and where every crevice bears witness to a passage: that of time, of alteration, but also of persistence. The eroded edges of the work seem to dissolve into a golden-yellow light, as if the forest were revealing itself from an ancient, almost sacred depth.
This composition fits perfectly within Borge's research: to bring forth, through the worked material, the memory of a place, a mental landscape, a presence appearing or disappearing.
Forest thus oscillates between geological abstraction and vegetal evocation, inviting a tactile, slow and meditative contemplation.
