Two silhouettes, one same flaw: normalization as a subtle undercurrent.
In this vibrant and disturbing canvas, Philippe Trefois continues his reflection on the standardization of beings through his series Les Formatés . Two figures face each other or merge, like inverted reflections of the same conditioning, at the crossroads of the human, the mask and the puppet.
Here, matter comes alive: the charcoal line scratches the canvas, the colors—reds, blues, ochres, coal—clash furiously. Bodies are tense, faces both expressive and disjointed. Nothing is smooth. Everything wavers. Gazes pierce us, carrying what we sense of sadness, anger, or submission.
Philippe Trepois wields his palette like an emotional scalpel: he dissects modern humanity, torn between individuality and social conformity. He doesn't paint characters; he paints a universal unease. A muted cry in a society where inner chaos hides behind a facade of control.
Series “The Formatted” 4 is a powerful, instinctive work that summons our own image and sends us back a question: and me, to what extent am I formatted?
