In 1996 I took a trip to Jordan with my aunt. We travelled across it from North to South, from the capital, Amman, to the port of Aqaba on the Red Sea.
Passionate about the different civilizations that have inhabited the area, I was able to discover the Nabataean remains, the people who created the site of Petra, those of the Romans in Aman and other places.
For my watercolors, I wanted to paint different characters I had met: soldiers, camel drivers, flute players, etc... I made them from my own photos.
Near Aman, we met stonemasons restoring a Roman monument. Look at the precision of their movements. They each use a different tool. They leaned against the corner of a house to work undisturbed.
