Harlequin Head – Alain Monvoisin
A face shattered into colored diamonds, an identity fragmented between play and mystery. Harlequin Head summons the imagination of the mask, theater and metamorphosis, where the individual is composed of a mosaic of nuances and fragments.
The rich and contrasting palette, mixing greens, browns, golds and blacks, recalls the costume of the Harlequin, an ambiguous character oscillating between laughter and melancholy. The ovoid shape of the head seems to dissolve in this geometric patchwork, as if the subject existed only through the multiple facets of his appearance.
Monvoisin questions here the duality between surface and depth, between illusion and reality. What remains of the face behind this moving checkerboard? Tête arlequine is a poetic reflection on the play of identities, on these masks that we wear, consciously or not, to cross the world.
