Square Head – Alain Monvoisin
A fragmented, deconstructed face, absorbed by the geometric rigor that surrounds it. Tête aux carrés is an exploration of structure and fragmentation, where Alain Monvoisin plays with the tensions between organic form and imposed frame.
The squares, with their varied textures – fluid, striated, almost marbled – seem to enclose the head in a rigid system of thought, a mental grid where identity is modulated, bending to the demands of order. However, the head, in deep green and blue flat tints, resists. It insinuates itself between the frames, escapes strict definitions, asserts its presence in the space of the painting.
Monvoisin asks us: to what extent is our mind conditioned by the structures imposed on us? Is thought free or shaped by an invisible framework? Tête aux carrés is a work where the rational and the instinctive confront each other, where the rigor of forms contrasts with the flexibility of the living. A fascinating reflection on perception, constraint and inner freedom.
