Toward the Open Sea unfolds a landscape of striking sobriety, where the sea stretches without apparent limit. The gaze encounters no obstacle; it glides across the water’s surface, moves past the rocky formations, and fades into the misty horizon where distant islands dissolve into silhouettes.
The choice of black and white heightens this sense of purity. Deprived of color, the image focuses on lines, masses, and breathing spaces. The sea occupies most of the composition — a vast, calm expanse subtly crossed by a faint diagonal trace, a discreet sign of passage, of movement almost erased.
The rocks on the right anchor the image in materiality. They embody presence and stability. Opposite them, the open space symbolizes infinity and the unknown.
