A monkey's gaze, with a disturbing intensity, fixes the viewer. Its mouth is hidden by two human hands. This powerful work blurs the boundaries between human and animal, the real and the symbolic. The title Almost Human evokes the proximity of humanity and its primate origins, while questioning our own nature. The gesture also refers to the famous precept “Speak no evil”—one of the three wise monkeys—and suggests a profound message: what we keep silent, what we repress, or what we share. The minimalist composition against a black background reinforces the expressive force of the gaze and the symbolism of the hands.
