Turquoise 2 extends the visual meditation initiated by Ioustini Drakoulakou on mineral memory, through his series Losing turquoise . Created from thin sections observed under a polarizing microscope, this work reveals an almost cosmic, vibrant and fragmented material, like a celestial vestige frozen in time.
This photograph was taken in 2019 at Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, as part of the artist's research on Greece's only turquoise deposit, located in Vathi Kilkis. A work blending science and poetry, where the gaze lingers between geology and introspection, between disappearance and revelation.
Turquoise 2 is a fragile and magnetic imprint of what once was, a crystalline trace of the intimate and the invisible.
