In Vicissitude , Maxence Landon embodies the inner struggle through the figure of a man caught in a viscous molasses that symbolizes mental shackles: the same bond imprisons his body and his thoughts. By trying to free his head from the veil of matter that ensnares it, he seeks to free himself from the distorted perception of his environment.
The bronze's raw, rough texture reinforces the sensation of suffocation and resistance; every detail of the surface evokes this inner chaos, this heavy matter that we carry within ourselves. With raised arms and inclined torso, the figure expresses both the extreme effort of rising and the hope of revelation.
