Explorer of the invisible and human emotions

From a young age, Philippe Trefois developed a strong artistic sense, nurtured by drawing classes at school. As a teenager, he expressed himself through artistic photography before turning fully to painting.

Today, Trefois paints for the love of art. His creation is above all an inner quest: through painting, he seeks to access deep territories, to explore the hidden nature of beings and their environment. He considers Man as the temple of his own painting, a source of inspiration and ground for introspection.

His work is characterized by a poetic confrontation with reality. He deliberately forgets its concrete contours to retain only a disjointed idea, which he recreates harmoniously in a search for the invisible. This sensitive exploration invites the viewer to an introspective contemplation, between raw emotion and suggested beauty.

Trefois uses mixed media, combining oil paint, acrylic, ink and charcoal , with a predilection for the painting spatula . His style draws inspiration from the masters of expressionism, such as James Ensor and Willem de Kooning .

He is currently working on several series, including "Les Formatés" , where he explores the destructuring of the human being through form and color. He depicts silhouettes and portraits, spontaneously constructed according to an instinctive feeling, punctuated with charcoal strokes that underline the emotional depth of his works.

His current ambition: to create large formats , true spaces for experimenting with color, graphics and deconstruction.
