Biography

Born in 1970 in Hauts-de-Seine, Gwenelvez (formerly H. Alex) is a self-taught artist who has been exploring art since a young age. As soon as she could hold a pencil, she developed a passion for drawing and painting, immersing herself in delicate plant representations: leaves, chestnuts, bunches of grapes...

Settled in Suresnes, where she still lives, she discovered oil painting and trained in a studio, before exploring acrylic. Her exhibitions at the Salon des Dépendants in Saclay allowed her to meet other artists and assert her style. In 2022, training with the painter Amylee marked a decisive turning point in her career, leading her to professionalize her artistic approach. In 2024, she participated in the 49th Salon des Artistes de Suresnes , confirming her commitment to the art world.

Inspired by the symbolism of Gustave Moreau , the rich palettes of Mucha, Klimt, Toffoli and Vasarely , as well as the fantastical universes of Kurosawa , Gwenelvez likes to create worlds where imagination takes precedence over reality. For her, art is a bridge between dream and the tangible, a luminous escape from everyday life .

In 2024, she adopted her artist name Gwenelvez , born from the fusion of the Breton Gwen ("white") and the Kabyle Elvez ("eagle"). This new signature embodies her artistic identity: luminous, free and inspired by multiple cultures.

Artistic approach

Gwenelvez's work is a sensory and symbolic journey, nourished by her explorations in Egypt, Greece and the heart of ancient legends . Her creations are at the crossroads of fantasy and myth , whether abstract or figurative .

Through a mixed technique combining acrylic, oil and collages , she enriches her canvases with various materials: wallpapers, ribbons decorated with pearls and rhinestones, handcrafted jewelry, dried flowers, etc. Textures and light are at the heart of her creative process , bringing depth and relief to her compositions. She particularly likes the combination of white fabrics marbled with gold with mosaics in vibrant shades : blue, pink, green, gold, etc., thus creating faceted and hypnotic works.

An art full of symbols

The themes dear to Gwenelvez explore mystical and dreamlike universes:
