In Justice (Tarot) , Maguy Bourzeix revisits the archetype of one of the major arcana with quiet audacity. The central figure, turned toward the invisible, offers us her back but offers us her message. Draped in a solemn and richly detailed robe, she firmly holds the classic attributes of justice: the sword and the scales. Yet the interpretation here transcends authority.
The artist questions our own role as spectators: are we judges, accused, or simply witnesses to our own truth? The sculpted faces at his side, half gods, half masks, seem to observe him as much as they scrutinize us. Books are thrown at his feet: discarded knowledge or transcended knowledge?
