🖌️ Artistic approach

A self-taught painter for over 28 years, I work exclusively with a knife, exploring painting as an intuitive and sensory language. My works, mainly created in acrylic since 2016, are deeply rooted in an approach of transmitting positive, sometimes even therapeutic, energies.

I oscillate between abstraction, figuration, and a hybridization of the two. My art is inspired by my natural magnetism: I transform emotions into colors to offer interludes of well-being, conducive to dreaming and inner journeying.

My paintings are distinguished by their vivid hues, dynamic movements, and emotional charge. They invite a kinesthetic and immersive experience, awakening the childlike soul in each of us.

Alongside my artistic practice, I lead workshops for children with disabilities and organize cultural visits to emblematic places in the history of art.

Positive luminosity and chromatic vitality in Marc Feist's Abstract Expressionism, when harmony becomes a guideline for feeling.

Everything that belongs to interiority, to the way of perceiving the world around us, is expressed in artists through their works, as if, through pictorial and sculptural representation, they could not help but reveal what they would otherwise not be able to explain; this is even more true when creators approach a type of art where form gives way to a formless world, that absence of visual references where it would be possible to hide, thus leading them almost unconsciously to expose their nature, telling their personal way of facing life, of interpreting events and perceptions of the observed reality. Today's protagonist chooses this type of pictorial approach, through which one can guess, in addition to his talent in the association of colors, the smiling look he casts on everything around him, telling his emotions through the use of brightness.

At the beginning of the 20th century, art felt the need to undergo a necessary evolution to keep pace with an era marked by technological innovations and social dynamics that were profoundly disrupting the slower and more traditional rhythms of the past; it was in this new vision that different movements were born, sometimes opposing, where some wanted to maintain a link with the observed reality while reinterpreting it according to the new themes anticipated by the artistic currents of the end of the 19th century, while others insisted on the need to completely detach themselves from the visible to enter a new dimension where the plastic gesture would be enough to create art, independently of any contingency of reference. This guideline gave rise to Abstraction, where the first theorists focused on the objectivity of forms in space, often with geometric references and a choice of colors limited to only primary colors, as in the Suprematism of #Kazimir Malevich and in the #De Stijl of #Piet Mondrian and #Theo Van Doesburg , and above all excluding any subjectivism, emotion or personal interference from the author of the work. Only #Wassily Kandinsky , considered the father of Abstract Art, tried to maintain, with little success at that time, a connection with inner feeling through the executive impulse generated by music; his expressive approach, after a rejection by his contemporaries, was taken up and even pushed to the extreme in the 1950s, with the birth in the United States of this Abstract Expressionism intended to revolutionize the world of Informel Art by freeing it from any reference, even geometric or linear, to transform it into a pure manifestation of the artist's interiority, whose common denominator was the absence of any other rule, thus leaving each artist the choice of the pictorial technique most in line with his feelings. The impulsiveness of #Jackson Pollock , one of the founding fathers of the movement, found its full accomplishment in Dripping, often executed on jazz notes, a powerful inspiring element, while the reflexivity of #Mark Rothko and the poetic delicacy of #Helen Frankenthaler needed the tranquility of the Color Field, just as the impetuous irrationality of #Frank Kline needed sign painting to be spontaneously released on the canvas

Furthermore, for him, colors correspond to the emotional vibrations that move within oneself, often unable to express themselves fully, while through pictorial manifestation it is possible to completely surrender to the flow of sensations avoiding the filter of rationality thanks to the choice to detach oneself from figuration, even if, in some paintings, he superimposes real images on others without form. For #Marc Feist , art is a therapy of liberation and an awareness of an inner world often too rich to be told in words, and thus, the plastic gesture becomes communication, a connection between the unconscious and the awareness of everything that, otherwise, could overwhelm.

  1. Oxygen – acrylic on canvas, 80x80cm

The use of acrylic paints and mainly the knife and spatula to spread the color allowed him, over time, to perfect his technique and harmonize it with his approach to life, where every event, every circumstance can be transformed into a fundamental opportunity to see opportunities for light where many see darkness. This concept allowed him to channel, through art, the overcoming of the schizophrenic disorder of one of his sons, to whom he taught painting to overcome blockages and crises, thus allowing him to convert into creativity what afflicted his mind. It is #Marc Feist 's innate positivity and resilience that generate his palette of vital, vivid, joyful colors, as if, in his conception of existence, everything tended towards the light, allowing euphoria and enthusiasm to emerge in the face of a life that transforms according to one's own point of view, because the way we look at what surrounds the human being is capable of determining the experience we have of reality.

  1. Design by light – acrylic on canvas, 80x60cm

Design by Light seems to be the symbol of the artist's painting, encapsulating everything that matters to him: light, colors, expressive exuberance, and the total inability to consider shadows and gray, because it is much more fun to embrace joy rather than gloom. It is better to believe that everything can generate positivity and opportunities rather than negativity and stagnation. Thus, in a certain way, this canvas represents the movement and explosion of favorable conditions that can arise from successive events. The chromatic fragmentation is accentuated by the use of the production tools, where the brush intervenes only to refine the work of the knife and spatula, as if to emphasize the uniqueness of the infinite possibilities that each day offers to those who know how to seize them.

  1. Imagine – acrylic on canvas, 80x80cm

The Imagine canvas leads the observer into a more poetic, dreamy dimension, as if #Marc Feist were issuing an invitation to enter the enchanted world that can be created when adults allow themselves the luxury of becoming a little child again, to remind themselves to cradle their desires, those fantasies that adults often deny or simply forget. The colors are soft, delicate, and yet, at times, they become sharper, perhaps to emphasize that anything can become real, provided you choose to believe in it. The application of acrylic colors here is more fluid, lighter, in order to accentuate this suspended space, far from reality, where dreams need to be cultivated.

  1. Howl – acrylic on canvas, 80x80cm

Howl is one of the few works where a dark space emerges, as if #Marc Feist were aware that it is sometimes necessary to go through a moment of disorientation before regaining the smiling and joyful attitude that characterizes his optimistic personality. However, despite this awareness, the space occupied by black remains minimal, just enough time to let out the scream evoked in the title, quickly surpassed and relegated to the background by the ability to react, to raise one's head and find a smile again thanks to the wonder that surrounds him, and to his innate inclination to consider sadness or imbalance only as a means of appreciating all that is beautiful and constitutes the true salt of life.

  1. Courage – acrylic and gold leaf on canvas, 60x60cm

.

And, almost as if to complement the previous canvas, Courage highlights, through the generous use of gold leaf, the precious inner strength, that capacity for reaction that is essential for #Marc Feist in order to face ups and downs, and to emphasize the importance of a resilient attitude thanks to which it is possible to overcome all obstacles. The background of this work is less intense, less colorful compared to other canvases, perhaps to mark the dismay that arises when the individual becomes aware of a difficult event, in the face of which he can choose to succumb or, as the artist suggests, to take control of the situation and resolve it to his advantage.

  1. Osmosis - acrylic, 100x50cm

#Marc Feist , self-taught artist, is a member of the Academy of Arts-Sciences and Letters , awarded the bronze medal for the promotion in 2023, has participated in group exhibitions in many cities in France, in Barcelona, Zurich, New York, and has received numerous awards and distinctions for his captivating art.

possibility of choosing the pictorial technique most akin to his feelings. The impulsiveness of Jackson Pollock , one of the founding fathers of the current, found its full realization in Dripping , often executed to the notes of jazz music, a strong inspirational element, while the reflexivity of Mark Rothko and the poetic delicacy of Helen Frankenthaler needed the calm of the Color Field , just as much as the impetuous irrationality of Franz Kline needed sign painting to be spontaneously released on canvas. French artist Marc Feist picks up the guidelines of Abstract Expressionism , to which his painting style belongs, reworking them to tune them to his feeling, his attitude towards art but also towards everything that passes under his attentive and sensitive emotional lens that allows him to perceive the invisible energy that moves beneath reality. Not only that, for him colors correspond to the emotional vibrations that move within the self, often unable to escape completely, while through pictorial manifestation it is possible to let oneself go to the flow of sensations, avoiding the filter of rationality precisely because of his choice to keep himself detached from figuration, even if in some paintings he superimposes real images on others without form; for Marc Feist , art is a therapy of liberation and awareness of an inner world that is often too rich to be recounted in words, and thus the plastic gesture becomes communication, connection, between unconsciousness and awareness of everything that might otherwise overwhelm. It is the positivity and resilience innate in Marc Feist that generates his palette of vital, lively, cheerful colors, as if in his conception of existence everything turns towards the light, allowing to emerge the euphoria and enthusiasm for an existence that changes according to one's personal point of view, because the view of what surrounds the human being is capable of determining the experience one has of reality. Design by light seems to be the symbol of the artist's painting, it encompasses everything that matters to him: the light, the colors, the expressive cheerfulness, the total inability to consider shadows and gray because it is much more fun to embrace joy rather than gloom, it is better to believe that positivity and opportunity can come out of everything rather than negativity and static. Here, in a way, this canvas represents the movement and explosion of favorable conditions that can arise from the events that unfold. The chromatic fragmentation is accentuated by the use of media, so the paintbrush only intervenes to finish the action of the knife and the spatula, as if to emphasize the uniqueness of the infinite possibilities that every day present themselves before those who know how to seize them. The canvas Imagine , on the other hand, leads the observer into a more poetic, dreamy dimension, almost as if Marc Feist 's was an invitation to enter the enchanted world that can be generated when the adult is able to allow himself the luxury of becoming a child again, to remember to cherish his desires, the fantasies that the adult often denies or simply forgets; the colors are soft, delicate, yet in some strokes they become more defined, perhaps to emphasize how real everything can be, if only one chooses to believe it. The drafting of acrylic colors here is softer, lighter, to accentuate that suspended space far removed from reality in which dreams need to be cultivated. Hurlement is one of the few artworks in which a space of darkness emerges, almost as if Marc Feist were aware that it is sometimes necessary to experience a moment of bewilderment before recovering the smiling, cheerful attitude that characterizes his optimistic personality; in spite of this awareness, however, the space occupied by black is minimal, just long enough to allow him to let go of the scream of which he speaks in the title, which is immediately overpowered and overshadowed by his ability to react, to raise his head again and return to smiling thanks to the wonder around him, to his innate aptitude for considering sadness or destabilization merely as a

means of appreciating all that is beautiful and which in fact constitutes the true salt of life. And, almost as if it were complementary to the previous canvas, Courage emphasizes, through the extensive use of gold leaf, the preciousness of an inner strength, of a capacity to react that is fundamental to Marc Feist in order to cope with ups and downs, to emphasize the value of a resilient attitude thanks to which it is possible to overcome any obstacle; the background of this work is less intense, less colorful than other canvases, perhaps to emphasize the disorientation that occurs when the individual takes note of an event that is not simple but in front of which one can choose to succumb or, and this is the option suggested by the artist, to take the situation into one's own hands and resolve it in one's favor. Marc Feist , an artist trained as a self-taught artist, is a member of the Académie des Arts-Sciences et Lettres , awarded the bronze medal for promotion in 2023, has taken part in group exhibitions in many cities in France , in Barcelona , Zurich and New York , and has received many prizes and awards for his engaging art.
